The Catholic University of America Brings MSN Program Online

Established and respected nursing program now available to RNs across the U.S.

Washington, D.C. – Seventy-seven years ago, The Catholic University of America’s School of Nursing was one of the first institutions of its kind to offer nursing education programs. Today the School takes another important step forward by offering the Master of Science in Nursing program in the online format.

Like its on-campus counterpart, the online M.S.N. incorporates core coursework in topics vital to the effective practice of advanced nursing, including theory and applications of the practice, research methods, advanced health assessment and studies in health care policy.

The baccalaureate degree in nursing, master's degree in nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice at The Catholic University of America are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036, 202-887-6791.

The Master of Science in Nursing curriculum incorporates a Family Nurse Practitioner track that offers in-depth studies in an area of advanced practice nursing that is expected to grow due to the Affordable Care Act, major demographic shifts and other factors in health care. FNPs provide comprehensive primary care to children and adults, similar to the role once held by family doctors. Track coursework explores perinatal, pediatric and adolescent care; cultural issues in caring for families, ethics, health problem management and more.

MSN graduates are eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Family Nurse Practitioner certification exam. They are also qualified to explore other career opportunities and certifications in advanced practice nursing, such as nursing education, managing departments or facilities, and doctoral studies.

Graduates of the School of Nursing’s programs consistently show extremely high pass rates on certification exams for acute and primary care positions. In addition, the School of Nursing has been awarded many federal grants throughout the years, a recognized mark of excellence.

The Catholic University of America is also renowned for its respected record of academic excellence, as well as a rich tradition of Catholic spirituality and ethics. The Catholic faith is integral to the University’s identity, but students and faculty members represent a range of religious and cultural background. This diversity brings layers of perspectives and insights to the classroom that benefit the learning experience for all.
