A Distinguished History
The Catholic University of America was founded in 1887 by the U.S. Catholic bishops with the support of Pope Leo XIII to be the national university of the Catholic Church in the United States. Originally established as a graduate research center, the University began offering undergraduate programs in 1904 and today is home to 12 schools and 21 research facilities. An accredited and respected member of the American academic community, The Catholic University of America continues to build on its origins to promote the advancement of knowledge in the light of our Christian faith in order to create a successful future for its students.
